Dynamics of Galaxies in Clusters
نویسنده
چکیده
Recent observations by the Hubble Space Telescope show that spirals make up to 50% of the galaxies in clusters at redshift z ∼ 0.5 (Dressler et al. 1997; Ellis 1998). Spectroscopic evidence suggests bursts of recent, or even current, star formation. This picture is drastically different from the nearby clusters, populated mostly by featureless elliptical or S0 galaxies. The change is due to the evolution of S0s, which are depleted by about a factor of two at z ∼ 0.5. Observations suggest that star formation has ceased in the ellipticals by an epoch z ∼ 0.6, but continued in the S0s until at least z ∼ 0.3 (van Dokkum et al. 1998). It is apparent that a strong dynamical and morphological evolution of disk galaxies has occurred in clusters of galaxies.

Allowing the energy of a gravitational field to serve partially as its own source allows gravitating bodies to exhibit stronger fields, as if they were more massive. Depending on degree of compaction of the body, the field could be one to five times larger than the Newtonian field. This is a comfortable range of increase in field strength and may prove to be of convenience in the study of vel...
متن کاملEvaluation of New MOND Interpolating Function with Rotation Curves of Galaxies
The rotation curves of a sample of 46 low- and high-surface brightness galaxies are considered in the context of Milgrom's modi_ed dynamics (MOND) to test a new interpolating function proposed by Zhao et al. (2010) [1] and compare with the results of simple interpolating function. The predicted rotation curves are calculated from the total baryonic matter based on the B-band surface photometry,...
متن کاملScaling relations in dynamical evolution of star clusters
We have carried out a series of small scale collisional N-body calculations of single-mass star clusters to investigate the dependence of the lifetime of star clusters on their initial parameters. Our models move through an external galaxy potential with a logarithmic density profile and they are limited by a cut-off radius. In order to find scaling relations between the lifetime of star cluste...
متن کاملPlanar Molecular Dynamics Simulation of Au Clusters in Pushing Process
Based on the fact the manipulation of fine nanoclusters calls for more precise modeling, the aim of this paper is to conduct an atomistic investigation for interaction analysis of particle-substrate system for pushing and positioning purposes. In the present research, 2D molecular dynamics simulations have been used to investigate such behaviors. Performing the planar simulations can provide a ...
متن کاملMOND and the fundamental plane of elliptical galaxies
It is shown that the MOdified Newtonian Dynamics (MOND) explains the tilt of the fundamental plane of elliptical galaxies without the need of non-baryonic dark matter. Results found for elliptical galaxies extends to globular clusters and galaxy clusters, showing that MOND agrees with observations over 7 order of magnitude in acceleration.

We examine the dynamics of the stars and globular clusters in the nearby giant elliptical galaxy M87 and constrain the mass distribution, using all the available data over a large range of radii, including higher-order moments of the stellar line-of-sight velocity distributions and the discrete velocities of over two hundred globular clusters. We introduce an extension of spherical orbit modeli...
